Terms of use

The plain-language terms for the New York Eats app and this website. Last updated Oct 7, 2026.

What the app is

New York Eats is a free guide to restaurants in New York State. It is provided as is, for personal use, without charge and without warranties of any kind.

Check before you go

Restaurants open, close, and change their hours and menus, and some close for the season. Dishes, seasons, and years at an address are what each place or a named source said when we checked in October 2026. We work to keep the lists right, but we can't promise that any listing is current or complete. Call the restaurant before you make the trip.

Health inspections

New York Eats doesn't grade restaurants. In New York City, the app and this site show the NYC Health Department's own letter grade with its date, as the department published it; a grade describes the graded inspection on that day. Elsewhere in the state there is no official grade: the app shows the date of the latest New York State Department of Health inspection on file and its counts. NYSDOH: “Any use of this data to develop a restaurant grading system is not supported or endorsed by the New York State Department of Health.” Any analyses, interpretations or conclusions here are ours, not NYSDOH's. In Suffolk County, the app shows the violations the county cited in 2025. Erie County publishes no inspection data in bulk. For the official record, see each agency's own site.

Other people's content

Hours, photos and other details in each place card come from Apple Maps and are Apple's and its providers', under Apple's terms. Restaurant names and trademarks belong to their owners. MICHELIN and the MICHELIN Guide are trademarks of Michelin. James Beard Foundation and James Beard Award are trademarks of the James Beard Foundation. "Garbage Plate" is a registered trademark of Nick Tahou Hots. Honors are reported as facts. New York Eats is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the State of New York, its Department of Health, State Liquor Authority or Empire State Development, the City of New York or its Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Suffolk County, Erie County, the City of Buffalo, Michelin, the James Beard Foundation, Apple, or any restaurant, team or chain.
